Seniors Open Day Report

The Grove Golf Club Seniors Society held their Seniors Open Day on Friday 27th July with 167 players entered for this very popular tournament which attracts club golfers from all over South Wales. After a very long spell of hot, sunny weather the forecast for the big day left much to be desired with overcast skies and the threat of some rain. Later in the morning the rain did arrive but it did not cause too many problems for the players.

Congratulations go to all those who took part and helped make the day a great success – we appreciate their support.
The course was in very good condition with hard and fast fairways and excellent greens and I must thank Rhys Williams and his Ground Staff for all their hard work, especially during the period of dry weather we have experienced. There were many compliments received from nearly every player who took part.
As mentioned earlier the Seniors Open at The Grove has proved to be a great success over many years and is popular with many golfers who return year after year, and this is down to the hard work of several people before and on the day of competition – it is a great Team effort.
The Seniors Society also sincerely thank the Directors and Management of the Golf Club for allowing us to hold our Open Day at The Grove.
Special thanks go to Lady Members Linda Dacey and Ann Bevan for their priceless help with Registration duties and sale of Raffle Tickets for the many prizes donated by the Members of the Society. Also on hand were several Committee Members who helped with various tasks in preparation on the morning of competition and with the checking of scorecards as the players completed their rounds. Senior Member Graham Davies again carried out the duties of Starter on the 1st tee and he made sure that everything ran to time – once again many thanks.
Also thanks to Club Golf Professional Leon Warne and his Junior Professional James who dealt with the needs of those players who required golf buggies and other services. There was also a need for Club Members to make their personal buggies available for hire and I thank them all for their generosity.
With a large number of golfers entered into the Seniors Open there is a need to ensure they are “well fed and watered” during the day and this was well managed by all the Bar Staff, Catering Staff, and Waitresses I thank them for all their hard work in looking after our visitors.
Success on a day such as this is only achieved by team work and we had this in abundance – let us hope we can continue to do so in the years to come.
In conclusion I would like to thank, once again, all those players from the many Golf Clubs, and also our own Society Members who participated in our Seniors Open Day 2018 – I hope we can do it all again in 2019.
