The weather was quite Autumnal at the start with some scattered showers and a strong N.W. wind, but things did improve during the round and the players were able to enjoy some blue skies and sunshine. Unfortunately, the last group were on th 18th green when there was a sudden cloud burst but they made it to the shelter of the Clubhouse before getting a soaking. The course, as mentioned on Tuesdays report, is in very good condition and all the players enjoyed their games even though there were testing conditions with the strong, blustery winds. After the game everybody enjoyed a drink and a chat in the bar before sitting down to another excellent meal. The Home Team were comfortable winners on the day but they know that the away game at Dinas Powis Golf Club in Septemeber will be a tough challenge.

The weather was overcast but warm with a light breeze at the start of proceedings but as the games progressed the sun appeared and the temperature rose making it pleasantly warm and ideal for playing golf. The course was in very good condition, even though the greens were a little on the slow side, and everybody enjoyed their games. After the match players gathered together in the Bar where they quenched their thirsts before sitting down to a very enjoyable meal. A well known Grove Seniors prankster managed to convince the catering staff that his table was the Captains table and in doing so was served with dinner before the actual Captain but it was all taken in good humour. The Grove Seniors Team now go into the re-arranged Away game on 24th June with a healthy 5.1/2 games to 2.1/2 game lead but knowing that they will have to be at their best to win the Trophy.

The weather was a complete contrast to last years fixture at The Grove which was cancelled due to heavy rain – this time the players were greeted with bright sunshine, blue skies and a light wind. The course was in very good condition and although the greens had been top dressed they still played pretty well. Everybody enjoyed a great late morning/early afternoon of golf which appeared to inflict a terrible thirst on all who played – this was soon remedied in the Bar after the game. A fine meal was then served-up and enjoyed in the Parklands Dining Room after which both Captains gave their verdict on the days experiences. The game ended in a genuine “honourable half” – 4 games all. The Grove Team now look forward to the return match at Fairwood Park on the 19th September.

Our very good friends & neighbours Pyle & Kenfig Seniors were todays visitors to The Grove for their annual friendly fixture. The first flight tee’d off at 11am with the weather a lot milder than of late but a little damp with some light rain which turned to sunshine and blue skies and then to heavy rain as both Teams made their way around the golf course. Work is still in progress on the course but it did not spoil the the games which were played in great spirit and humour and was enjoyed by all. The game was followed by some great banter and camaraderie over a drink in the Bar and then by a very enjoyable meal. Grove Seniors Captain Richard Bourne warmly welcomed Pyle & Kenfig Seniors Captain John Adsley and his Team to The Grove and hoped that they had enjoyed their day. Once again the weather was dry and bitterly cold in the blustery wind but the course was in good condition (hard & fast) and the greens were quite fast as a result of the use of an ironing machine by the green staff. Both Teams enjoyed a very competitive game played in a friendly spirit which was followed by a well earned drink and an excellent meal. In his after dinner speech The Gower Golf Club Seniors Captain Ken Graves warmly welcomed The Grove Seniors Team and hoped that they had enjoyed their day even though the sun made a very late appearance at the end of the afternoon.
