Club Captain

Ladies Captain

What an honour and a privilege to be asked to hold such an esteemed position in the Grove Golf Club. I would like to thank Mr. Michael Thomas for giving me the opportunity to become captain. I first met Mike when I started to play darts in the Green Acres pub, then I joined the club in 1997 when it became an 18 hole course. I have been in the GROVE from the beginning and watched it change over the years.I would like to congratulate Shirley Isaacs on becoming the Lady Captain and to take this opportunity to congratulate a very worthy the Club Vice Captain Mr. Karl Murray and Jackie Sexton as Lady Vice CaptainShirley and I have arranged some events for the coming year, to raise funds for our charities, which are Dementia and Shirley’s is Portage, Bridgend. We would also like to put something back into the club for the members and all the sections. When I joined the club in 1997 I became the club champion. During my time at the club, I have played team golf for the Links, 2nd and 1st Teams. I have captained the 1st team for 5 years since I have been a member of the Grove, and I have been very fortunate to have many friends at the club and at other clubs that we have played. Last year the 1st Team won their league and I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate and thank all the members who played in the 1st Team. My thanks also to those members who played for 2nd team. I am very optimistic that both teams can do well next year, but in order to do so, we need more members getting involved in team golf. I must also congratulate those junior members who are playing team golf because they are the future of the club, and we need to encourage them to become more involved. I have also played in the seniors section and met a lot of friends playing in all the teams.

When I became vice captain a lot of members offered and gave their support and I would like to thank each and every one of them as it meant a lot to me. I hope their support will continue.

I would like to thank all the directors and the green staff who are responsible for the upkeep of the course. We receive many plaudits about the course from both members and visitors. Also, a big thank you to all the catering  and bar staff for their tireless work in making sure that both members and customers receive the best of service. My thanks also to Mr. Leon Warne and Mr. Mark Rae for all their assistance during the year.

I would like to wish all the members a good year, without you we would not have a golf club, and let’s work together and have a great year.

COLIN RUMBELOW

CLUB CAPTAIN.

I am honoured to be Lady Captain this year and wish to thank Bev our past Lady Captain for nominating me to share this privilege. I am heartened by the support of the ladies who are on the committee this year and the enthusiasm of the entire Ladies section for the forthcoming year. We want to encourage more mixed events this year to strengthen links between the sections. We hope to make a meaningful contribution to our chosen charities and help develop all the sections.

Keep an eye out for our social and golfing events throughout the year for which we will appreciate all our members’ support. This support was evident in your overwhelming response to our first event of the year, the Christmas swim, for which I thank you immensely.

I look forward to a great year with Colin, our club captain and our two vice-captains Karl and Jackie.
