Ascot Ladies Day 21st June 2012

Ladies Ascot Day at the Grove Golf Club was a huge  success. This is an annual event held to support the captains’ chosen charities which this year  are Portage, Bridgend and Dementia, UK. We had 38 ladies attend  our spectacular event. Thank you to our members and guests who supported us. We were greeted with a beautiful selection of canapés and Pimms on arrival. Ladies were very elegantly dressed with their stunning headgear.

Mr John Dacey was ably supported by Mr Peter Sexton and Mr Ashley Isaacs to manage the races and betting for us. We watched the first race at 2.30pm after which we enjoyed the meal. The chef surpassed  himself with the delicious selection of foods available on the hot and cold buffet. We had many compliments about the quality and presentation of the food which is always of the highest quality at the Grove. Dessert was fabulous and then we could concentrate on the horses. Some ladies had Lady Luck on their side.

The Grove Golf Club kindly donated a bottle of bubbly to the lady with the best hat which was presented to  June  by the Lady Captain. The 3 gents were presented with a token of our appreciation for their hard work  during the afternoon.  The afternoon drew to a close with the Thank You speeches. Traditionally the brave entertain us so we were delighted by the smooth voice of Mr John Dacey singing later joined by Mrs Irene Hopkins.  Mrs Emlyn-Jones told us a joke and then we all had time to relax and enjoy a drink with close or new friends. All in all an  afternoon well spent raising money for charity. The total amount raised was £570 so we extend a huge Thank You to everyone who contributed to the success of the afternoon. Thanks to the manager, Amy Watkins for all her help, Emma and bar staff for managing the tickets and all the catering and other staff at the Grove for their contribution.

We hope that we will be able to repeat this success next year and we look forward to you all joining us for another afternoon of fun.
