A huge Thank you to all the ladies who helped me celebrate my birthday (again). Congratulations to our winners: First prize Cheryl Western, Runner-up Mel Williams, Best Front 9 Heather Davies and Best Back 6 Sue Bishop. Presentations were also made to Sue Bishop for her hole in one last month, the 2 league captains and to the Lady Vice-Captain. Thank you for the gorgeous bunch of flowers, my card and the beautiful earrings. Thanks to the Club Captain, Colin Rumbelow for his card and birthday wishes and to our photographer, Ash.

Ladies Spring Coffee Morning

What glorious sunshine we had for our Spring Coffee Morning which was very well supported by members and visitors. Thanks to all the committee members and ladies from the Section who helped to make it a great success by helping on the desk, serving coffee, selling raffle tickets and providing our popular raffle prizes. Thanks to Jackie who supplied a variety of melt-in-the-mouth Welsh cakes and Mel who made delicious cupcakes. My thanks also go to Mr Bourne, our club secretary, and all staff at the Grove who helped on the day.

Away winners were Eirwen Humphries from Maesteg GC with 18 points, Linda Lloyd from Brynhill GC with 16 points and Maureen Anderson from St Athans GC who came third with 15 points. Well done to our 3 Home players who won prizes: Frances Robertson came 1st with 18 points, Sheila Stubbs was 2nd with 17 points and Cheryl Western with 17 points claimed 3rd prize. Congratulations to all our winners. We hope to see you all again at our forthcoming Open Competitions.

BIG BAND WEEKEND AT THE GROVE

ON FRIDAY 6th JULY and SATURDAY 7th JULY 2012 THE GROVE GOLF CLUB WILL BE HOLDING A BIG BAND WEEKEND FEATURING “THE BIG WHAT?! BAND” & “KISMET” ON THE FRIDAY NIGHT FOLLOWED BY “BIG MAC’S WHOLLY SOUL BAND” & “KISMET” ON THE SATURDAY NIGHT. EVERY SECTION WITHIN THE GOLF CLUB ARE ENDEAVOURING TO SELL ALL THEIR TICKET ALLOCATION FOR BOTH NIGHTS WHICH WILL RESULT IN A FINANCIAL BENEFIT TO ALL. IT IS HOPED THAT MEMBERS OF THE SENIORS SECTION WILL WHOLEHEARTEDLY SUPPORT THIS BIGBAND WEEKEND AND HELP TO MAKE IT A GREAT SUCCESS. TICKETS ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT £8 each (to include Raffle Entry).

Golf Psychologist Session Two

12 of the grove junior section 1st team squad, will under go a 2 day training program over the next 6 weeks, with Matthew Ellis a golf psycologist from North Wales. The second session will be onTuesday the 1st of June.

Presentation Night and Christmas Dinner Newsletter

Dear Ladies

A very Happy and Blessed New Year to all of you. We had a very successful presentation night in November when Bev and Keith, captains of 2011 presented their cheques to Sandville and Ty Olwen. I have posted pictures of those of you who have responded to my email being presented with your prizes. Very well done to all of you particularly to our Lady Champion Cheryl Western. We had a few hitches on the night but who says Life has to be perfect. We all learn all the time ( or we should!)

I will post the pictures taken at the Christmas dinner when I have had the nod from all of you in the pictures. We had a fun night with me reading out the poem ‘Gladys’ kindly supplied by Sue C. Hopefully you will see a copy of this in the locker room soon by way of a laminated poster and be reminded to avoid slow play at all times on the course and to show great consideration to fellow golfers.

We enjoyed a fabulous meal on 9 December with an encouraging turnout (thanks to Amy and the staff at the Grove) after which we were pleased to receive our gifts from Secret Santas. We were then entertained by Irene reading an hilarious story about Lindercella, Irene, Pauline and Sheila doing a miners song in fancy dress followed by Anne and Sonia’s take on a technically advanced fruit and veg vendor. We were all well entertained and had a good laugh. I hope that you all enjoyed the evening as much as I did. Thanks again for your kind participation.

Watch this space for some news and pictures of the Christmas swim. Thank you for your kind sponsorship of Ashley who bravely swam on my behalf. Also my thanks go to Clive Heatman, his son-in-law Tom and Mike Scully who all swam too. Thanks to Bev and Sonia for their support on the morning (and Ladies who I might not have seen at the swim). Thanks also to those of you who donated money in lieu of Christmas cards which will go to my chosen charity, Portage Bridgend. I will let you know how much was donated once I have all the information.
